My Fair Lady
NOV 15- DEC 17, 2017
Henry Higgins, a celebrated professor of phonetics, makes a bet that he can pass off a lower-class flower girl from Covent Garden as a duchess at the Embassy Ball. By dressing her in expensive clothing, improving her manners, and teaching her how to speak correctly, Higgins transforms Eliza Doolittle into a lady. Following the Greek myth of Pygmalion, Higgins becomes enamored with his creation, now the most eligible lady in London. Adapted from George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, with songs by Lerner and Loewe, Quintessence presents "the perfect musical" and will explore what remains of the rigid 20th century class system and how important appearances are in empowering a woman today.

The Vagina Monologues at the Sedgwick Theatre
February 13, 2017
The Vagina Monologues, written by Eve Ensler, is a worldwide phenomenon, performed each year in communities around the globe. It is a call to Action, a call to Rise and take back our power over our bodies and our lives. It is hysterically funny and heartbreakingly sad. The monologues are taken from interviews with hundreds of women and reflect the struggles, resilience, pain and bliss of real life. V-Day and One Billion Rising are international movements that have grown out of The Vagina Monologues, supporting grassroots groups working to end violence against women and girls.
This year we are shining a spotlight on women who are experiencing or fighting workplace violence. Violence against women at work takes place every day, in every country, across socio-economic levels – from laborers to company executives, to waitresses and teachers, at-home mothers, nurses, farmworkers, factory workers, actors, and domestic workers. The additional layer of exploitation is that, in many cases, women facing workplace violence are vulnerable and impeded from speaking out or seeking justice for fear of losing their job. All of this is happening in the context of a global economic reality where it is increasingly difficult for women to even earn a livable wage
